a - Figures for 1951 given for alien Poles only.

b - Figures for 1951 - 1971 were given for the old Counties, and have been adjusted to fit the Regions as they existed at the time of the 1981 and 1991 Censuses.

c - No specific figures were given for Poles in the counties of Banff, Bute, Berwick, Caithness, Kincardine, Kirkudbright, Orkney, Peebles, Sutherland, Wigton, or Zetland for 1961.  The total number of Poles in these counties in 1961 was 249.  Their distribution between these counties for 1961 has been estimated on the basis of the changes 1951/1971.

d - Figures for 2001 were given for the new Councils and have been adjusted to fit the Regions as they existed  at the time of the 1981 and 1991 Censuses.
